RECORD LIGHTING is a lighting design company with specialised experience in Exhibitions, Events & Cultural Heritage sectors. Our background is rooted in theatre and immersive events, which have influenced our style and approach to how we light spaces. We have worked with some of the most highly reputable Lighting Design firms within the Museums, Galleries and events industry.

Our aim is to deliver creative, high quality, sustainable & cost-effective lighting schemes which meet the client’s brief and add value to each project. We work closely with the design team, following the curatorial narrative as the central spine for our design approach throughout projects. We pay attention to detailed design requirements of each individual section, so no two spaces are ever the same. We believe that lighting serves to reinforce the holistic design identity and take the visitor on an immersive journey. We often use dynamic lighting effects and controls to enhance atmosphere and help to tell stories.

Together with the creative aspects of design, we ensure that the lighting is always in accordance with modern codes, lighting standards and environmental objectives. We also have specialised knowledge in conservation requirements; including how to maximise enjoyment of the objects. Our wide product knowledge and manufacturer contacts are essential for delivering appropriate solutions for any given budget. In addition to design, we have hands-on installation experience, which gives us in-depth technical knowledge to better inform design decisions.

Our office is based in West Sussex in the UK,  just 50 minutes from London.

SUSTAINABILITY & THE ENVIRONMENT

56835725_10157032415760011_8795505565171

Our passion for nature and the environment is a central thread through our work. In 2015/16 Lucy Record (Director) based her MSc dissertation on the environmental impacts of LED lighting in the Urban environment, which was published in the acclaimed ILP Journal This led to invitations to present her findings at events including the Annual Lighting Summit.

Aside from our usual projects, largely within the realms of the built environment, we are keen advocates of preserving dark skies. Outside of the 'day-job', we keep a keen eye on examples of harmful impacts of lighting within the nocturnal environment. As well as being a personal interest, sustainability is an important topic among Museums, galleries, and the public realm in general. We believe that this should be more than just an exercise in "ticking boxes", but intrinsically woven into our designs and thought processes.
