The Story of Lowther
Lowther Castle
Cumbria

The Story of Lowther exhibition brings over 1,000 years of history to life through an immersive, multi-sensory experience. Located in the iconic Lowther Castle, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey from the medieval beginnings of the castle to its modern-day restoration. Our lighting design concept played a crucial role in enhancing this historical narrative, thoughtfully illuminating the artefacts and artworks on display while honouring the rich heritage of Lowther.
The lighting design embraces the castle’s 13th-century crest, subtly integrating it into the overall aesthetic, and highlights key exhibition moments—from the majestic entrance to the intricate dioramas and valuable treasures. The lighting creates an atmospheric journey, guiding visitors through the various periods of Lowther’s history, bringing each moment into focus.
Completed in 2024, this project was a true collaboration, with creative direction from Vanessa Lowther and Charlotte Fairbairn, along with support from local collaborators. The lighting design enhances this significant historical exhibition, ensuring the legacy of Lowther Castle is both preserved and celebrated for future generations.
