This brand new permanent exhibition explores 20th Century Irish history. Situated in the 300-year-old Military Barracks, the new Changing Ireland Galleries feature a collection of everyday and extraordinary objects that contributed to the transformation of Ireland over the last 150 years. Highlights include Hannah Sheehy Skeffington’s suffrage banner, James Connolly’s hat from the Easter Rising, and new acquisitions including world-renowned guitarist Rory Gallagher’s 1961 Fender Stratocaster. The scheme consisted of newly designed conservation grade showcases by Meyveart, each with its own tailored object lighting. The 5 sections of the exhibition wove chronologically through history, each one with its own atmospheric shift in the style of lighting: from warm to cold to dramatic to 1980/90s's night club.
