Pirates
National Maritime Museum
Royal Museums Greenwich, London

Canons, Cutlasses, Ghost Ships, treasure chests, Gibbets, cartoons, life on-board a pirate ship, and so much more, this exhibition tells the story of both fictitious and real life pirates, from Captain Hook & Jack Sparrow, to Edward 'Blackbeard' Teach & Anne Bonny. The exhibition explores Piracy on a global scale including South Asia and the Coast of North Africa, and features a section on modern day Pirates.
Working closely with the in-house team, we approached the lighting design as a way to enhance the curatorial narrative with a theatrical edge; using a combination of dynamic lighting effects, shadow-play and texture gobos. The fascinating objects on display are central to the storytelling and as such, each required a tailored lighting treatment. With help from the incredibly talented in-house team, we created magical moments using theatrical prop-lighting, and canon-fire.
