Our Approach.
Record Lighting is an independent Lighting Design studio specialising in Museums, Galleries, Cultural Heritage and Private Art Collections.
Our background is diverse, starting out in immersive theatre and global touring productions, later leading to large-scale corporate exhibitions and high-profile events, including Auto shows and VIP launches for luxury brands. We pride ourselves on a portfolio that includes projects for the most reputable and coveted institutions across the UK, and beyond.
At Record Lighting we offer fresh, fun, beautiful and imaginative designs backed up with ‘hands-on’ technical knowledge and experience. We work collaboratively with clients and creative teams to deliver original solutions within any given budget. Our work is highly detailed and thought through, responding sympathetically to the brief, objects / specimens, architecture, curatorial narrative, and the visitor experience. All projects get the same level of our attention (no matter how big or small), with our aim to sprinkle magic into every job, without exception.
Sustainable Practice
Our passion for nature and the environment is a central thread through our work.
We champion sustainable practices by specifying energy-efficient LED lighting technology and exploring options for reusable or recyclable materials in the design process. As a collective, we keep tabs on our carbon footprint through our day-to-day practise and throughout any given project, to align with UK’s sustainability goals, and minimise waste & energy consumption. Sustainable practise can be achieved by developing a comprehensive controls strategy and specifying LED where possible, which in turn reduces operational costs. We always aim to work with local suppliers to source lighting equipment, boosting the local economy.
Aside from the realms of the built environment, living and working near the South Downs in West Sussex which is a protected ‘dark sky zone’, we are keen advocates of preserving dark skies and stellar visibility. In 2018 we published an article in the ILP Journal (Industry of Lighting Professionals) on the environmental impacts of LED lighting in the Urban environment, which was presented at the ILP Annual Lighting Summit the following year.
