Our Approach.
Record Lighting is an independent Lighting Design studio specialising in Museums, Galleries, Cultural Heritage and Private Art Collections.
Our background is diverse, starting out in immersive theatre and global touring productions, later leading to large-scale corporate exhibitions and high-profile events, including Auto shows and VIP launches for luxury brands. We pride ourselves on a portfolio that includes projects for the most reputable and coveted institutions across the UK, and beyond.
At Record Lighting we offer fresh, fun, beautiful and imaginative designs backed up with ‘hands-on’ technical knowledge and experience. We work collaboratively with clients and creative teams to deliver unique solutions within any given budget. Our work is highly detailed and thought through, responding sympathetically to the brief, curatorial story, objects and architecture. Every single job gets the same level of our attention (no matter how big or small), with our unfaltering aim to sprinkle magic into every job we touch.

Lucy Record
Director / Lighting Designer
Record Lighting was established by Lucy Record in 2022, to capitalise on her experience working in exhibitions, theatre and high-profile events for over 18 years.
Lucy is passionate about integrating narrative into design, using the dynamics of light to bring ideas, objects, and spaces to life. Lucy has a ‘hands-on’ technical background, that aids with creative thinking and problem solving. She has experience of working across a wide scale of projects, from classical Fine Art collections, to Fashion, to glitzy parties in exotic locations, (and the list goes on). Lucy leads all projects at Record Lighting.
Lucy holds a BA in Theatre Design from Central Saint Martins (UAL), and a Masters in Light & Lighting at the Bartlett, UCL, in which she focused on the environmental impact of LED lighting in the urban environment. Lucy has previously worked for leading design practises including IMAGINATION, Studio ZNA & Beam Lighting Design, with recent collaborations with DHA. Notable projects include: Taylor Swift Songbook Trail & Naomi: In Fashion, both at V&A Museum, Ancient India & World of Stonehenge, both at The British Museum, Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael: Florence 1504 at The Royal Academy of Arts, Pirates at the National Maritime Museum, Gorgeous Nothings at Chatsworth House, Royal Style in the Making at Kensington Palace, Jaguar F Type (Global launch) in LA / Kensington Olympia, Kelly Morphose jewellery (VIP event) in Hermés London flagship store, Istanbul Art Biennale 2019 (VIP Launch Party).

Sustainable Practice
Our passion for nature and the environment is a central thread through our work.
We champion sustainable practices by specifying energy-efficient LED lighting technology and exploring options for reusable or recyclable materials in the design process. As a collective, we keep tabs on our carbon footprint through our day-to-day practise and throughout any given project, to align with UK’s sustainability goals, and minimise waste & energy consumption. Sustainable practise can be achieved by developing a comprehensive controls strategy and specifying LED where possible, which in turn reduces operational costs. We always aim to work with local suppliers to source lighting equipment, boosting the local economy.
Aside from the realms of the built environment, living and working near the South Downs in West Sussex which is a protected ‘dark sky zone’, we are keen advocates of preserving dark skies and stellar visibility. In 2018 we published an article in the ILP Journal (Industry of Lighting Professionals) on the environmental impacts of LED lighting in the Urban environment, which was presented at the ILP Annual Lighting Summit the following year.
